Our Mission

The mission of the Cherry Lane Fire Department and First Responders is to safeguard the lives and property of the citizens within the Cherry Lane district and surrounding locations. We achieve this through professional fire suppression, rapid medical response, and proactive community education, all fueled by the tireless dedication of our volunteer force.

A History of Volunteerism Since 1978

Cherry Lane Fire Department & First Responders was officially incorporated in 1978, born out of a shared necessity among Glade Valley residents to provide local, reliable emergency protection. Over the decades, what began as a modest group of neighbors has evolved into a fully equipped emergency response organization, maintaining tax-exempt 501(c)(4) status since 1991.

Committing to Safety

Today, we remain 100% volunteer. We are the teachers, farmers, business owners, and retirees of Alleghany County, united by a single goal: to be there when our neighbors need us most.

Station 9: At the Heart of Glade Valley

Based out of our facility on US-21 South, Station 9 serves as a vital hub for regional safety. Our primary service area encompasses the unique rural landscape of Glade Valley and Roaring Gap, but our reach extends throughout Alleghany County through mutual aid partnerships with our fellow departments in Sparta, Glade Creek, and Laurel Springs.

A Community-Funded Organization

As a non-profit organization, we rely on the support of our county and state government, alongside generous donations from the community we serve. Recent state funding and local fire tax district allocations ensure that our volunteers are equipped with modern apparatus and life-saving technology.

Will You Answer the Call?

We are always looking for dedicated individuals to join our ranks. No experience is required-only a desire to serve.
